Smeralda |
| Costa Smeralda is the name which was given ,
in 1962 , by the founding members of the Consorzio Costa Smeralda to the area of the land
owned by them in the north-eastern extremity of Sardinia . The
name , which was inspired by the striking colour of the surrounding sea , refers ,
therefore , exclusively to the particular area comprising Consorzio Costa Smeralda land . |

| Along these 55
Km. of coastline there are some eighty sheltered beaches with fine , white sand gently
shelving into an emerald green sea . The temperature is mild during most of the year. |
| The Consorzio Costa Smeralda
is an association whose founders set themselves the task of protecting and planning , with
care and taste , this previously untouched part of Sardinia . They commissioned a panel of the world's leading architects and
planners to draw up a master plan.
Infinite precautions have been applied so
as not to spoil this earthly paradise. |

The result has been the armonius combination
of the work of man with nature , so that buildings are not imposed on the landscape but ,
rather , blend in with it and enhance it . Those
who acquire a villa, an apartment or a land in the area of the Consorzio automatically
become members of the Consorzio Costa Smeralda and are thereby obliged to conform to the
Statute and Building Regulations laid down by the Consorzio Board and the Architectural
Committee .
The Consorzio Costa Smeralda remains a non
profit organization devoted to the protection of the the area and the supervision of such
important service companies as the Environmental Protection Service , the Water Supply and
Medical Sevice .
